to celebrate the history and 100 Year Anniversary of Camp Gordon / Naval Air Station / DeKalb-Peachtree Airport!

This year's annual Good Neighbor Day Airshow and Open House will be dedicated to its extraordinary 100 year history.

From its beginnings in 1917 as a World War I Army training base to full-fledged Naval Air Station during World War II in 1942 through present day, Georgia's second busiest airport. Many young men, not only from Georgia but from all over the United States, began their flying careers during the next few years while the Navy was using the airport for pilot training. Camp Gordon circa 1917

Excerpt from Atlanta’s Camp Gordon,
by James Kevin Knettel:

Camp Gordon was one of 16 United States Army Camps that quickly sprang to life across the country in our push to ready ourselves for participation in World War I, “the war to end all wars.” As such it was not built to last and no remnants stand today of a camp that once had the capacity to hold 46,000 troops at one time and contained more than 1,600 buildings spread over 2,400 acres. Over 250,000 young men would eventually undergo training here in the year and one-half between when the United States declared war and the armistice.
